AUB – Assembly Hall

Historical Restoration & Acoustic Engineering

The Challenge

As one of AUB’s most iconic historic landmarks, the Assembly Hall required extensive structural stabilization and a complete acoustic overhaul. The primary challenge was retrofitting modern climate control and state-of-the-art audio systems without altering the building’s 19th-century architectural heritage or damaging its historic woodwork and stained glass.

Our Approach

  • Silent Retrofitting: We utilized subterranean duct routing to install central HVAC, preserving the visual integrity of the main hall.
  • Acoustic Modeling: Deployed specialized acoustic plaster and hidden dampening panels behind historic tapestries to eliminate echo while maintaining the hall’s natural resonance for orchestral performances.
  • Restoration Craftsmanship: Partnered with historical preservationists to meticulously restore the vaulted wooden ceilings and reinforce the aging limestone masonry.

The Outcome

A fully modernized, 600-seat premier performance and lecture hall that retains 100% of its original historic aesthetics while achieving modern seismic and energy-efficiency standards.
